Peyton Manning has been named as the Sportsman of The Year by Sports Illustrated. This is the second year with the Broncos after missing the 2011 season. He has led the Broncos to an 11-3 record and has thrown 47 touchdown passes which is 3 less than Tom Brady's record.
There was some speculation that David Ortiz who led his team the Boston Red Sox to the World Series Title or Mariano Rivera who was with the New York Yankees for 17 seasons and retired recently would win the title.
In the past nine year there were three other quarterbacks that won the title. Drew Brees won it in 2010, Brett Favre in 2007 and Tom Brady in 2005.
