President Obama To Discuss Issue of Concussions At The White House

In an interview last year President Obama mentioned  that he would have never let his kids play professional football.  He raised the issue of concussions,  a topic that is a concern for parents of young athletes all over the country.

President Obama will be hosting a summit at the White House tomorrow to discuss the issues of concussions in sports. Representative of the NFL and NCAA are invited to discuss how to prevent and to identify when an athlete has suffered a concussion.

A joint report that was published by the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine last year,  highlighted the fact that young athletes ignore any symptoms of concussions in order to continue playing.  This is extremely dangerous since it can lead to secondary concussion which can lead to permanent brain damage.

The NFL and NCAA have both committed themselves to projects and research to make sure that sports is  safe and fun  for American youth
