Eric Rivera Jr. 23 is denying he was the one that killed Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor during a 2007 robbery. In court he claimed that his previous confession that was videotaped and shown in court was simply what he repeated back to the investigators the story they told him during questioning.
Rivera was part of a group of five that wanted to steal cash that they thought Taylor kept. Apparently they thought he would be at a Redskins game that night however he stayed home with a knee injury. He confronted the group with a machete and was shot in the upper thigh. He died of blood loss.
Rivera claims that he was in the car and was waiting for the group to come out with the cash. He denied that owned the pair of Nike shoes that left prints around the house. He also claimed that a different member of the gang Venjah Hunte was the one with the gun and that he was the one that fired the fatal shot or that he got rid of the gun afterwards. Though Hunte pleaded guilty he didn't admit to the shooting.
If convicted Rivera faces life in prison. Closing arguments can begin on Wednesday.
