Carl Nicks Goes Through Surgery For MRSA

What does Carl Nicks, Lawrence Tynes and Jonathan Banks have in common besides playing for the Bucs?  MRSA.  The infectious disease has made an appearance and so far they are still feeling the effects of it.

Nicks and Tynes have gotten the infection in August.  Tynes was put on the non- football injury list, while Nicks was successfully treated with antibiotics.  However last week   it was announced that Jonathan Banks is also being treated for the infection and Nicks has had a recurrence. He successfully underwent surgery today in order to get rid of the disease.

Deverick J. Anderson an associate professor at Duke University Medical Center said that when MRSA gets to the bone antibiotic is not good enough to heal the infection. At that point surgical intervention is needed in order to cure it.

MRSA is an infectious disease that is more common and contagious than people realize.  The disease can be life threatening.  The Bucs have professionally cleaned out the building twice in order to eliminate any traces of the disease.  Infectious disease experts advised the players to shower after practice and wash their hands as much as possible.
