NFL Reaches Agreement With Former Football Players

The NFL has agreed to pay $765 million to settle a lawsuit from over 4500 former football players.  The players have sued the NFL for hiding information that they knew about the dangers of concussions.  The NFL has claimed that they acted on the information that they knew at any given time.  The case was brought before U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody who ordered the two sides to try to settle their differences out of court.  According to the settlement that was reached $10 million will be set aside for medical research and $75 million will be used for medical care.  All former football players and their spouses are eligible including the ones who are deceased.  Whether their medical conditions are related to football or not they will receive medical screening and care.  The settlement does not include an admission from the NFL and current players are not covered under the agreement.  U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody is expected to rule on the settlement in two to three months.
