Football Safety-A Real Concern

In an interview President Obama mentioned that if he would have a son he would think long and hard before allowing him to play football since it takes a huge physical toll on a person.  The NFL has responded that the safety of the players are their priority.

Junior Seau the linebacker for the New England Patriots has been posthumously diagnosed with CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) a disease that is caused by repetitive blows to the head.  His family is suing the NFL now saying that they hid the dangers so that their profits should be affected.  He is not the only player to suffer.  Many retired players are having behavioral and cognitive issues that require medical intervention when they retire.  All this is really no surprise considering the nature of the game when strong players constantly bump and fall onto each others.  No helmet or pads can protect you enough if you constantly get hurt.  Rules need to be changed so that they can play without being worried about their safety which will make it more enjoyable and pleasant to watch.
